Cyberbullying is a world wide problem that a lot of teens face in daily life. This is something everyone , of all ages, should be aware of. In this page you will find helpful information on how to prevent things from sexting to phishing.

SEXTING

Sexting- the sending of sexually explicit messages to someone who is a minor or adult.

Celebrities do it. Adults do it. Now our children are doing it. This is is a problem that most people feel they can avoid and it will just go away. They are wrong. Now a days people of all ages, children even, are sending messages that are embarrassing and very mature, raunchy even. Teens think that sexting will increase their chances of having a longer lasting relationship. the severity of this problem is a very real thing, teens suffer from depression because of their pictures getting leaked all over the internet.
WAYS TO PREVENT SEXTING
1. Parents check your child's phone or take it every night to charge it. this prohibits teens from sending anything all night and they are more aware that you are in the know.
2. Parental controls. They are simple to set up and easy to track, either through software or through the phone company itself you can make sure that your teens aren't sending anything that you don't approve of.
3. Monitor the internet as well as their phones because once they know you are on to them in the texting scene they will move to sneakier tactics.

Phishing
Phishing_email.png

This is an example of phishing. This email is contacting a random person asking them for personal info under the name of a bank or other business that doesn't exist. There are certain things you need to know in order to avoid phishing emails.
1.Know that your bank has all your personal info on file , so if they ask for any of it call your bank directly and not from the number on the email and check with the bank before you fill anything out.
2.Any spam emails you receive delete immediately and ignore any that pop up.
3.Never give any private info out not even your first name it is to risky on the internet to give out anything because it will be out there forever.
4.Many different software's can block pop ups and virus and emails from fraudulent senders. Installing these are a very good idea if your computer is slowing down due to pop ups or virus emails.

EMAILS AND PASSWORSThere are so many precautions to take concerning email and passwords. Here are some common mistakes people make and ways to prevent them.1.People most of the time think it is smart to have one password for email, banking, Facebook, Skype, etc.. but what they don't understand is that even though it is easy to remember, it is also easy to hack. For example you give someone a password that could otherwise be harmless. Then those people could then take that password and try it in Facebook. If they get that password then that can lead them to banking and identity theft in the end. 2.Friends trust friends, right? WRONG! Well at least when it comes to email and Facebook. You and your friend may be as close as can be but you should never give away any passwords to your friends.3.Personal info stays on the web. SO DON'T DO IT! Its as simple as that people get in trouble everyday on chat rooms and email talking to people they don't know and giving out personal info..

CYBERBULLYING

cyberbullying is a serious matter almost every child in the US has a computer or has used a computer in their life. Cyberbulliers think they can bully over the internet and no one will know. The problem becomes worse over the internet. It is because people don't know that more and more children loose their lives over these kind of scenario.

YOU HAVE WON!!!!!!

I am sure if you own a computer you have seen one of these before. Typically flashing any type of message in your face, a scam can convince anyone that they are ... a winner. Its hard to understand why anyone would say you won an ipad or a computer and then ask for all your info so you can have your prize. They are smart putting together the most tempting flashy messages saying anything to get you to give out info about yourself. many times there is a prize involved or cash or any other incentive that could get someone excited. You really have to be careful. There is software that blocks pop ups and scams and things that ask for personal info.
chat-rooms.jpg CHAT ROOMSWould you go up to a stranger on the street and tell them your personal info? OF COURSE NOT!! That is what chat rooms are. Talking to strangers is very dangerous. For example in the picture above these men were "cyber dating" using the internet to find girlfriends. When they decide to meet in person it isn't what they expected. If you were talking on a chat room and a random person asked you to talk what would you do? Would you answer? Would you tell your parents? Or would you just leave it and not think about it? Well unfortunately some kids don't know any better and answer right away. Talking about their personal life's to complete strangers. This could lead that person to other personal info about you that could potentially harm you. A lot of kids have been harmed by cyber friends through the internet and through physical means. Other threats could be sexual predators. These men who are usually middle aged will stalk young girls and find out where they live. So many young women have been hurt by men who have found out where they live on the internet. This is one of the many reasons why you need to be super careful on the internet. it is a place that anyone can see anything you have ever put up.
