Internet safety is important. The internet can be a useful place to get information on anything, but it can be dangerous too. You need to learn how to be safe on the web. This applies to every one of all ages, 5-75.

Phishing is the act of sending an email to someone to try and get personal information that will be used for identity theft.
Never give out social security numbers, bank account information, or anything personal.

Identity theft is when someone uses your personal information to commit fraud or other crimes.
They can use your name, social security, and credit card number. Never give out any of this information on the internet because it will never go away. This applies to people of all ages 5-75.

Instant messaging is messaging through computers or other devices.
This can be dangerous especially for little kids because they do not know who they are talking to. Never meet anyone in person that you met online.

Chat rooms can be text messaging or video chat on the internet.
These can be very dangerous for kids because the people on the video chat can be inappropriate. Parents need to monitor kid’s online activity.










Scams
A fraudulent business scheme.
Never give any website personal information. This applies to everyone.






FaceBook
Facebook is a social networking site that most people of all ages are on.
Never add anyone as a friend that you do not know and keep your wall private.

Email is electronic mail, its like instant messaging but has more personal information than instant messaging and is slower.

A password is a secret code or word , which a user must supply during a login.
Never share passwords with anyone any change them every couple of months.

Never share your bank account info with anyone because then that gives them the power to go in and make changes, which can result in major debt.






Harassment
It is commonly understood as behavior intended to disturb or upset, and it is characteristically repetitive. In the legal sense, it is intentional behavior which is found threatening or disturbing.
If someone is harassing you tell someone you trust, or if it is serious tell the police.

Sexting
Sexting is the act of sending sexually explicit images or photographs between mobile phones.( sending nude pictures of yourself) If someone is trying to get you to send a nude picture of yourself, say NO.
