There are many steps you can take to be safe on the internet. Mostly, watch what you say to strangers, don’t click on random links EVEN if it says you won a million dollars, and do not give out ANY personal information EVER. NEVER WORRY ABOUT GETTING IN TROUBLE, YOU HAVE NOT DONE ANYTHING WRONG.

Phishing is a scam where people email you trying to get your bank account information to steal your identity. If you receive an email from and unknown source, DO NOT CLICK IT. Hackers try and target mainly adults for phishing scams, because they know the social security number and bank information. Mainly they email you saying they are someone else and ask for your personal bank account information. By clicking on the link and giving the cyber criminals the information they need, they can steal your identity. Also, the dishonest people will send you things like this in an email.

Make sure you do not click it because in fine print it will always say something that could make you loose your identity.

If someone emails you asking for you bank account information, NEVER give it to them. This is an easy way for cyber criminals to steal your identity. Your bank account information should be between you and your bank.

swa0217l.jpgWhen you are on any online chatting site, it is so easy for the person to lie about who they are. Even with a picture or video, they can still be faking. So, make sure you never share your personal information because you never REALLY know who you are talking to. If you are indeed talking to a sexual predator and you are not aware of that, they can find you from the information that you give them. If you start to feel uncomfortable with the conversations with another person, block their contact. They never know that you blocked them you just always seem offline. Also if you don’t like what is happening in your conversation, make sure you save the messages so that you can report the person and you have evidence.

You never know who you are talking to!

Sexting is when people take naked pictures of themselves or do any other inappropriate action and send them to other people via technology. These pictures, once sent, can land in anyone’s hands. If you receive an image like this, don’t send it to others and tell an adult. Also, if you receive a picture and you are under 18, that is breaking the law so report this person.

FACEBOOK (other social networking sites), PASSWORDS

Before you do anything on your social networking sites, make sure you put your privacy settings on high. You should do this so that only your friends can see your information. If you want extreme protection, use a nickname or your initials. Make sure you do not post where you are going on your profile, because then sexual predators could follow you to where you were going and do bad things to you. As you are writing, remember that what you wrote will be public forever. If you get a friend request on facebook from someone that you don’t know, do not accept it! If you start to feel weirded out with a person who friended you, talk to your parents and maybe report them. Also, only upload pictures that you would want you mom, dad, teacher, or stranger to see. Make sure that you never give your password to friends, family, and especially random people. The person you give it to could harass others or harass you through your own account.

There are many different types of harassment. For example, sexual harassment is when people force you to do sexual things that you do not want to do. Like sexual intercourse, the sending of inappropriate videos. This is mainly a problem with teens. The definition of harassment is to disturb persistently; torment, as with troubles or cares; bother continually; pester; persecute. For example harassment can happen on the Facebook if people continuously inbox you with information that really upsets or bothers you.
