Ellie Internet Safety

  1. How to be safe on the internet: there are many ways that you can be safe on the internet. Everyone needs to be safe on the internet, no matter what age! One way is to make things like facebook PRIVATE. Why should you make things private? Because strangers could look at your facebook and see all your information. Another way to stay safe on the internet is not to put out any personal information. You should NEVER put you address on the internet. It is possible that a stranger could see it and come to your house. Another way to keep you safe is to not chat random people. Younger kids could go onto a chat room and be talking to anyone. Younger kids sometimes do not know a lot about internet safety and they could give out personal information thinking that it is okay to say there address, phone number, etc. Everyone needs to know how to keep themselves safe on the internet no matter how young or old.

  1. Information for all ages:
Young children: Younger kids on the internet are unaware of the things that could happen to them. They could click on something they didn’t mean to and something terrible things could pop up. Younger kids like to play games so some of them go to the internet to do that. Ads could pop up and they could be disturbing , unsafe, etc. If they click on them then it could be disturbing things, like inappropriate pictures. Kids need to know the dangers of the internet .

Middle aged kids(9-12) kids from ages 9-12 can easily see things or do things on the internet that are not safe. I know when I was about 12 everyone had an aim account and you could chat to people whenever, but sometimes people could chat you and you would have no idea who they actually were. They could be anyone. Also kids these ages go to chat rooms, the people these kids are talking to could lie and say they are 10 but they could actually be like 40 years old. These older men and women chatting you could possibly be sexual predators. Sexual predators are men or women who are convicted of or plead guilty to committing sexual orient offense. If a younger kids is talking to a sexual predictor online, and they send out there home address, then those sexual predators could come to there house, and bad things could happen. Younger kids should know not to send out there address or any other personal information on the internet because if someone saw it they could come to you house! Kids need to know about the things that could happen on the internet, and chat rooms.

Teenagers(13-17): Most teenager these ages have a Facebook or twitter account. If you have a Facebook or twitter account MAKE IT PRIVATE. So other people who may not know you can not see some of your personal information. Teenagers on Facebook can get friend request(and anyone else who has a Facebook.) but if you don’t know them do not accept it! It could be anyone. Also, some teenagers could send naked pictures of themselves to other kids, this would be considered sexting. If you sent a picture to someone they could send it to another person, and that person could send it to another person. Soon everyone has seen that photo. Teenagers need to be careful on the internet, and what they send to other people. Also, teenagers go on to Skype or OOVOO which are okay sites to go onto because you can see the person who you want to talk with, but you still need to be careful who you are talking too! Teenagers also need to think about what pictures they put onto the internet. When they upload that photo to Facebook that picture is on the internet forever! Maybe one of your friends sees an embarrassing photo of you on the internet, then they can show it to other people. Those people who see it can harass you on the internet, in school, and anywhere else. Teenagers need to take caution on what they put on the internet because when its on there, it doesn't come off! Cyberbullying can be very dangerous as well as anything else. Cyberbullying is when someone bully's someone else through the internet. Cyberbullying can be very hurtful to other people. Sometimes cyberbullying leads to kids committing suicide, we need to stop cyberbullying and harassment as soon as possible! You can click on this file below to learn more about cyberbullying.

Adults: (ALL ADULTS OVER 18) Adults need to be safe on the internet. Some of them may put out there credit card information, anyone could steal there credit card information, and buy things off of it. Also an a adult could get an e mail from there bank account, but it might not be your actual bank account, which is called phishing. Someone could set up a fake e-mail address and could be sending e-mails to adults asking for there credit card information. If you sent your information without knowing it wasn’t your real bank account, then the person who sent you the e-mail now has you credit card information, and could use that to buy anything they wanted. A way a adult could stay safe would be to change you password often! Changing your password often is a good thing to do because if someone found out your e-mail address password then they could send out e-mails to other people saying negative things about them, but if you changed your password they would not know your password anymore and they couldn’t get into your e-mail address. And if you don't change your password that same password could be the one you use on Facebook, or any other social networking sites. When they have that password then they can go in to your Facebook and change things around, or do worse things. Also there can be identity theft, which is when someone else takes your name. So adults need to be safe on the internet too!

Older adults: ( 60’S-70’S) some older people on the internet need to be safe. Especially because of scams. Some older people do not know a lot about the internet, so when someone says ”YOUR THE ONE HUNDREDTH PERSON, CLAIM YOUR PRIZE NOW!!” They may not know that it is a scam and they could click on it and then “ buy there prize” when there really isn’t one. They could type in there credit card information and send it thinking they would get a "prize" back, but they would not. Now the person who created the scam now has there credit card information and could do what they want with it!
